Banknotes of France

France has produced some of the most beautiful banknotes of any country. The combination of allegory and symbolism, design, color and printing make each of these notes a work of art. These are especially notable in the Banque de France issues of the mid 20^th century.

Artists such as Clément Serveau, Luc-Olivier Merson and others received their training out of l'École des Arts Décoratifs and l'École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. They designed these beautiful banknotes under contract to Banque de France.
